After specialising in strength and conditioning at university, I realised that a lot of the principles used for sport, can be carried over to help those in everyday life.

This style of training focuses on a wide range of movements, balance, strength, power and fitness, which is both enjoyable and leads to some incredible results.

Whether you’re aiming to lose weight, build muscle or improve your performance, it is vital to encompass all aspects of well-being from nutrition to sleep as well as physical training. This sustainable approach will deliver lifelong results whilst maintaining a lifestyle you can enjoy!

I’ve been a personal trainer in Cheltenham for nearly a decade. My time in the industry has been incredibly diverse with experience working with a mix of demographics – from 100 year old beginners to ex-professional rugby players.

It was my love for rugby that first drew me into the gym environment as a student studying Sports Coaching in Cardiff. After a long time making errors in the gym, I learned the importance of proper technique and an eye for detail.

Nowadays, as a level 2 British Weightlifting Coach I have a deep interest in teaching Olympic lifts due to the progressive and technical nature of the movements. Many of my clients also enjoy doing boxing pad-work in their sessions to add extra variety and fun to their sessions – all of this fits tremendously with an eye for technique!

My training music taste is as eclectic as my clientele and I can often be found training to high energy stuff like Metal or Drum and Bass… but sometimes you need something more chilled and emotional like Country or Boybands!

Having run a few marathons at university, enjoying the challenge of longer endurance races, I decided to mix things up a bit by trying my first functional fitness class.

I was quickly humbled and my perception of what fitness really is changed in an instant. That was in 2012, and have since valued the format of mixed modal training that focuses on all energy systems, not just one. Shortly after this ego smashing experience, I became a coach and trainer and haven’t looked back.

I am passionate about movement and helping others experience life through fitness, ensuring that people move efficiently and train sustainably. I believe that by improving our strength, fitness and overall health markers, we create a freedom that allows us to see the world through a lens of possibility, opening the door to try new things and set goals that we previously would have thought impossible. Which is one of many reasons why I love being a coach, and I feel privileged to be a part of The Stronghold Coaching Team.

With extensive experience spanning over a decade in the industry, I seek to help clients achieve their goals through targeted, bespoke programmes. Whether ‘sheddin’ for the wedding’, seeking to fire up your fitness or build muscle mass, I will build a failsafe, motivational and targeted training programme, tailored to reaching your goals and guaranteed to ensure you look forward to spending time in the gym.

It’s not just looking good that’s a motivation for many. Feeling great is vital too. My client goals span a vast spectrum, addressing everything from weight loss and gain to mobility training, stress relief and much, much more. It is this reason that I love what I do and thrives on seeing clients strive to reach their goals.

For those that may not be a regular gym goer, do not fear. Diving in at the deep end isn’t for everyone and I support numerous clients at all stages in their fitness journey.

My ideal client is anyone motivated to achieve or that needs help with any of the following goals:

  • Weight loss / weight gain
  • Strength training
  • Muscle building
  • Fitness and mobility
  • Marathon or challenge training e.g. Tough mudder, Iron Man, etc
  • Confidence and empowerment through fitness
  • Stress busting mental health Gainz

I get huge satisfaction from helping clients achieve their goals while they (hopefully) enjoy the process. My favourite within work life is to see someone happier, more confident and energised than when I first met them (cheesy AF but true).

Favourite Exercise

Bent Over Row – awesome compound movement for the big & powerful back muscles

Least Favourite Exercise

Burpee – powerful and effective, but pure pain in the process and in all its variations

Favourite Workout Tune

“I’ll be ready” – can’t beat a bit of Baywatch! Sure. Also, anything DnB or House – bass and funk vibes

I understand where you are right now. Truth be told eating & exercising hasn’t always been this straightforward or easy for me, while growing up in the Caribbean, I was a shy, picked on, and mostly a fearful kid, who always hide away or pretend to be sick come sports day, due to this overwhelming fear of just taking part or not winning the race if i did.

A lot of that changed when the British Army came to my Island to do some recruiting back in 2000. I remember running my first ever timed Mile and half-assessment run in the midday heat, followed by some push-ups and thinking I was about to die (haha I didn’t). What the Army had provided for me is the platform to see and know as a person “I have the ability to overcome and grow from whatever life may throw at me”.

  • I have been a beginner with no idea where to start.
  • I have struggled with my own self-doubt.
  • I have overcome my own eating and exercise habits.
  • I still have days when the ‘sofa & TV’ win over the gym.

I have learned what works for me, through many years of trial and error with various training programs and nutrition approaches. My experience as an Army Team leader, parent, and everyday person just like you with the same struggle and frustration, has enabled me to identify the correct training formula relative to you as an individual.

Whatever your fitness goal is, I will show you the best way to achieve it in a realistic amount of time. Most importantly, I’ll teach you how to sustain it for the rest of your life so you’ll continue to develop into the best version of yourself, with or without me.

You don’t have to take my word for it, visit my website at www.bemorewithluciano.co.uk and check out my client’s results and testimony page for more info. Or visit My ig: @kyddfitness.

James Foster

I’ve had the privilege of working as a personal trainer in Cheltenham for over 8 years, working with a wide variety of clients with different needs and goals. I joined the industry through my love of sport, in particular playing and coaching hockey, which I played as a junior and through university while completing a Sports Science degree. I’m now a level 3 qualified PT and more recently a course specialising in Motor Skills Application.

I have and continue to work with a range of clients from those with weight management goals, through juniors looking to develop for specific sports performance, to clients looking to rehabilitate from injury.

Due to an injury I suffered playing hockey in my early 30s, I had to have my hip resurfaced to combat early onset arthritis. Since then I’ve taken a keen interest in physical rehabilitation and have ongoing relationships with clients who have been through similar hip and knee surgery. My lived experience helps foster true understanding of the challenges ahead, while supporting them with rehab and strengthening programmes.

My go-to training playlist is anything from Sum 41 to Jurassic 5.
